The government has been criticised for their decision to walk away from talks with trade unions on pensions for Community Employment Supervisors. He was speaking after the campaign of community supervisors in Donegal conveyed their dismay at the decision – branding the government actions as “unacceptable”.Senator MacLochlainn said: “It is now 11 years since the Labour Court made a recommendation that an agreed pension scheme for CE Supervisors should be put in place by the State. “That means 11 years of CE Supervisors retiring from their job without the occupational pension recommended by the labour relations machinery of the State.“I welcomed Minister Doherty coming to the table with Minister Donohue to engage with representatives of CE Supervisors. It was believed that these talks would continue until an agreement was reached, once and for all.“Instead, we now have a situation where both Ministers have walked away from the talks process and reneged on their commitment to bring forward their proposals to resolve the matter.“This is unacceptable and I am calling on Minister Doherty to keep her word and to engage in good faith with representatives of CE Supervisors. The Labour Court recommendation from 2008 must be implemented now.” Govt slammed for “unacceptable” actions towards pension talks was last modified: November 13th, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
DNA is packed like spaghetti in a basketball (07/28/2004), but must constantly be accessed by transcribers, duplicators and other molecular machines. Scientists at the Karolinska Institute, according to EurekAlert, have found a complex of protein machines that know how to untangle DNA. Machines that can keep DNA from separating too early (cohesins) and keep DNA coils compact (condensins) have been studied extensively, but these scientists looked more at another mechanism. When they artificially perturbed DNA strands, the machines went to work fixing the damage:The research group has studied the third, less well understood, protein complex, known as the Smc5/6 complex. This protein complex was found to bind to locations on the DNA strand that the researchers had artificially damaged, suggesting that it is directly involved in the repair process. Moreover, the Smc5/6 complex also seems to be required for the disentanglement of undamaged chromosomes before cell division. If these tangles, which are a natural consequence of the DNA copying process, are left unresolved the chromosomes cannot be separated and sent to the two nascent daughter cells. Like in the repair process, the Smc5/6 complex appears to resolve these intertwines by direct interaction with the DNA molecules, but this process is differently regulated as compared to the function in repair. The press release starts with a “wow” factoid: “Every second, the cells constituting our bodies are replaced through cell division. An adult human consists of about 50,000 billion cells, 1% of which die and are replaced by cell division every day.” Machines like the Smc5/6 complex are essential to maintaining our genomic integrity. So, evolutionists, tell us again about how this all worked out in the mythical RNA world when none of these repair and maintenance mechanisms had yet accidentally emerged.(Visited 8 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
The eCommerce industry is booming like never before with the introduction of new technologies. The eCommerce industry is witnessing a redefined form that takes customers to a new level of experience and gratification. But how is AI helping the eCommerce industry?Traditionally, retail businesses were satisfied by just making an eCommerce website for their brick and mortar stores, but it is not enough now. You have to evolve with new emerging technologies to provide immense value to the users. Contributing value to your users is the only way to sustain, grow, and outshine your business rivals.Artificial intelligence is the next promising technology with great potential to bring a paradigm shift to not only eCommerce but almost all industries. The eCommerce industry has embraced AI with open hands because of the exceptional benefits it offers. Retail businesses are implementing AI to improve various processes, customer experience, and at last, revenues.Let’s discuss how AI is changing the eCommerce industry:Personalization is ImportantBefore AI, personalization was there in the eCommerce industry, but of limited value. Artificial intelligence and machine learning technology have taken it to a new level altogether. If you use services such as Amazon or eBay, you must have surely experienced it.Artificial intelligence enables you to examine customer interactions on multiple platforms such as websites, mobile apps, and emails. Further, with data analytics, you can make personalized offers and product recommendations to the customers. With such customized customer-centric approach, you can win the engagement and loyalty from the customers. And through an in-depth mapping of the customers, grabbing their attention when they are likely to take action, is entirely possible. It is all about hitting the right chord at the right time. With a new semantic-based search option, customers are now able to search smartly and get relevant results that are of their interest. AI can recognize, understand, and respond to human semantic and hence can come up with relevant search results.Automated Chatbots:Welcome to the world of voice assistants and automated Chatbots, without whom, we cannot discuss artificial intelligence. If you have visited the eCommerce websites, you might have seen a chat window pop-up at the bottom-right corner. These are programmed Chatbots that makes the user experience more pleasant and superior. One of the best features of the AI is that it has eliminated human intervention while interacting with the customers. While browsing through the products listed on the website or an app, at times, the customer might face some confusion or disconnect. There might be many reasons for such disinterest. In such situations, Chatbots can help them solve their queries or questions instantly. Whether it is about a particular product’s availability or query regarding the comparison of products or any payment issues, Chatbots with their human-like intelligence can come to the rescue and help keep the customers’ interest intact.Chatbots have added a fresh perspective by adding a personal touch to the customer’s journey along with boosting conversion rates and ultimately, revenues.Voice assistants:We all are aware of Amazon’s Alexa; it indeed is one of its kind; a virtual assistant that has carved a niche for itself by empowering customers to control things. Internet of Things has tremendous potential for the eCommerce industry and as per the industry experts; it will soon transform the way people search for products and services.eCommerce Industrial experts forecast that the voice assistants will be present on all eCommerce websites and apps to interact with the customers and to give them a more personal experience.Decision makingIn the era of cut-throat competition, it is essential that you make the right decisions at the right time. Thanks to AI and Big Data, businesses with the help of AI tools can get a massive chunk of data and analyze it perfectly to create actionable insights, and make the right decisions regarding product pricing, inventory or to create personalized offers for the customers. With crucial data insights from AI tools, businesses can make better decisions that help to leverage resources and opportunities.Businesses can now access details about the market competition and the dynamics and come up with optimal pricing, directly through learning algorithms and predictive analysis. Also, AI helps businesses to manage inventory in a better way by analyzing past purchase records, stock, and actual sales records.Further, with the help of AI, you can evaluate your strategy and get a detailed report on the actions that worked and the ones that failed. It enables you to design better strategies with more meaningful patterns and actions.Giant businesses, including Coca Cola, are investing in AI to drive more success by superior decision making.Reviewing the reviewsWhether you believe it or not, reviews play a considerable role in shaping the users’ buying decisions. As per the Bright Local survey, 87% of users believe in reviews and make decisions accordingly. However, not all of these reviews are genuine and submitted by real, authentic users. Business rivalries play a considerable role in such fake reviews, where they demean their competitors by posting unfavorable reviews. The negativity from review discussions could be a concern that requires your immediate attention. Thanks to AI, you can now quickly get rid of such fake reviews by identifying the genuine ones. This is included with some of the best ecommerce courses as well. Machine learning algorithms can analyze user-generated content and put such reviews on top of the list. For that matter, even Amazon has come up with a new machine learning algorithm that can rank the genuine reviews and ratings on the top of the list. Amazon identifies honest reviews by analyzing different factors such as upvotes, verification of users, and recency.Inventory management and sales forecasting.Inventory management and sales forecasting are immensely helpful for any business. Sales forecasting helps predict the percentage of products that can be sold in a specific time-frame. Also, it proves to be a cost-effective method as you can avoid stocking products that are not in demand. All this is now possible because of AI and Big Data. With the data availability of previous purchases and buying behavior of the users, analyzing future sales can be done more accurately and efficiently. You can also strategize the marketing plan for certain products during a specific period. Also, with a clear insight into the product demand, you’ll be able to manage the stocks accordingly. Hence, with demographic user behavior and weather, analytics can help to manage inventory better.CRM:Gone are the days when your marketing and sales activities were run on spreadsheets. Today, there are new CRM tools available in the market that can do the job more effortlessly and with precision.Artificial intelligence can be used to make CRM more effective and accurate. Currently, many businesses are using various AI tools to evaluate potential leads, data from social media, essential recommendations, and for automatic data entry, data analysis to strengthen marketing and sales activities.Customer-centric visual search:Irrelevant search results are a big turn off for customers. Despite entering appropriate keywords in the search bar, customers end up finding irrelevant results. Due to this, you might end up losing a potential customer. AI can easily decode human language and hence can easily generate relevant results for the users.Furthermore, for advanced search, AI enables visual search option to find the exact products. For example, you can take a picture of your friend’s shirt and upload it on the website, and the AI will find similar shirts from different vendors for you. Amazon is one such retailer who has already started using this technology. It brings more favorable results for customers and saves their time too.Product description writingAmazon US has more than 600 million products. When it comes to SEO point of view, each product requires a detailed, accurate product description for SEO ranking. Obviously, it is a time-consuming and expensive procedure to write a description of each product. Experts hope that AI will serve the purpose well by writing product descriptions that are SEO-optimized and original. Just by knowing the key features of the product, AI will write a unique description and summary. Conclusion:Artificial intelligence comes with a storm of opportunities for eCommerce industry that cannot be ignored. The eCommerce companies will see new dawn where businesses will be able to serve customers in a more meaningful and productive way with the help of AI and ML technology. The processes will be quick and accurate, accuracy would be higher, and customers would get instant gratification with personalized offers and recommendations. England beat India by 6 wickets (D/L method) during the fifth and final ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday. Score | PhotosThe win dashed Team India’s hopes of giving Rahul Dravid a winning farewell, who retired from ODIs after scoring 1089 runs in 344 ODIs.With this win hosts England have whitewashed India in both forms of game. They beat India 4-0 in the Tests and then capped it was a 3-0 win in the five-match ODI series. The first ODI was washed away and the fourth ended in a tie (D/L method). The Cardiff match too witnessed the Duckworth Lewis method coming into picture with the match affected by rains on three occasions – start of both occasion and midway during England innings.Put to bat, India scored 304/6, with Rahul Dravid, playing his last ODI, scoring a fine 69. But it was Virat Kolhi’s fast-paced century that was the highlight of the India innings followed by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 26-ball unbeaten 50.India openers Ajinkya Rahane and Parthiv Patel started the innings with caution and gradually upped the tempo. But their opening-wicket stand came to an end on the first ball of the 13th over. A Jade Dernbach ball took the top edge of Rahane’s bat and Steven Finn took a fine catch at third-man. He scored 26.Soon the other opener Parthiv departed. A Graeme Swann turner took the edge of his willow and Tim Bresnan snatched a neat catch at mid-on. Parthiv fell for 19 and India lost their second wicket on 57.advertisementSoon Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli batted on to increase the tempo and helped India reach past the 100-run mark. The duo continued batting and soon India were way past 200 with a run rate that was hovering close to six an over.Kohli went on to complete his sixth ODI century and it took him just 87 balls to reach the millstone. He hit eight fours and one six in the process. However, even as the fans were celebrating Kohli’s ton, the very next ball sent Dravid back on a Graeme Swann turner. The ball entered Dravid’s bat-pad gate and clipped his off stump. He fell for 69 and India lost their third wicket on 227/3. His 79-ball inning was decorated with four fours.Soon Kohli too headed towards the pavilion, falling in a way he wouldn’t have imagined. He nudged the ball off Swann and went ahead to take a single without realising that his backfoot had hit the wicket. Kohli scored 107 off 93 balls. Then left-handed batsman Suresh Raina and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni combined to hike the run rate even as the English bowlers struggled to find an answer to their charge. It was not until the 49th over that Raina departed. The penultimate ball of Steven Finn’s over saw Raina attempt an untimely slog which was lapped up by Tim Bresnan at extra cover. He fell for 15 when the India total was 284/5.Ravindra Jadeja fell on the first ball of the last over and skipper Dhoni went on to complete his half-century as India posted a fine 304/6.England were given a revised target of 270 in 40 overs (D/L method) as the start of their innings was delayed by intermittent showers. However, the target was revised for a second time to 241 in 34 overs when the match was halted again during their innings. In reply, England got off to a not so impressive start losing their opener Craig Kieswetter early. A R. Vinay Kumar delivery trapped Kieswetter leg-before on 21.Kieswetter was a long way into the crease, but umpire Nigel Llong raised his finger and the batsman was seen walking back when the England total was 27.Post that fall however, the other opener – captain Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott started batting with resolve. But their effort came a cropper when the match was again halted and the target revised (241 off 340 overs).Post the rain break, the two went on with a fine partnership scoring 79 runs for the second wicket. Captain Cook scored 50 before falling to Kohli on 50 when the team total was 106. Trott went on to score a fine 63 hitting three fours and four over-the-fence shots before departing in 26th over of the innings off Jadeja’s ball.Spinner Jadeja did claim a wicket, but it was his lacklustre bowling that cost India heavily. He was belted across the tract by the English batsmen who scored 52 runs in the five over that he bowled. Finally Ravi Bopara, who had got out on nervous 90s in the last ODI, and young Jonny Bairstow, who led their team to victory putting on a unbeaten 75 runs for the fifth wicket.advertisementThe two turned the course of play with their impressive batting display which reduced the margin from almost two runs a ball to a run a ball and soon the runs were lesser than the number of balls remaining. While Bopara played is safe, rotating the strike nicely and dealing in ones and twos, it was Bairstow whose barrage of shots left Indian bowlers astray. He picked RP Singh and hit boundaries and sixes at will in his over and then repeated the task in Kohli’s over.Bairstow’s unbeaten 41 came off just 21 balls and included three huge sixes and one four. Bopara on the other hand scored a 36-ball 37 decorating his innings with three fours and one six.The two helped England reach the 241-run target with 10 balls and six wickets to spare. There was more disheartening news for India as Munaf Patel injured himself during play on Friday, while Praveen Kumar, India’s best bowler on tour, had to skip the match as he got injured during training on Thursday.

TORONTO – A ruling on Toronto’s legal challenge of the province’s decision to cut the size of city council from 47 to 25 members is expected on Monday.City of Toronto spokeswoman Beth Waldman says the city has been notified that Ontario Superior Court Justice Edward Belobaba will send his decision to legal counsel on Monday morning. The legislation, which passed last month, aligns the city’s ward map with federal ridings in time for the Oct. 22 municipal election, a move Premier Doug Ford has argued will improve decision-making and save $25 million. It also cancels planned elections for the head of council position in the regional municipalities of Muskoka, Peel, York and Niagara, turning them into appointed roles.Lawyers for the City of Toronto argued that reducing the number of councillors in the middle of an election is “discriminatory and arbitrary,” and violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.Belobaba had said he plans to rule on the case by the second week of September because of the looming municipal election, and acknowledged he expected the losing party would likely appeal.“As one of the parties in this case, the City of Toronto has been notified that the judge will send his decision to legal counsel on Monday at 8 a.m.,” Waldman said Saturday in an email. The province argued that municipalities are “creatures of the Legislature” and have no recourse when it comes to the powers of the province over their affairs.Lawyers for the Progressive Conservative government also said the legal challenges of the legislation have “no merit” and have asked for the cases to be dismissed and the province awarded costs.A spokesman said Mayor John Tory was looking forward to the decision.“The mayor fully supported this legal action because he believes the province’s process, which lacked any public input whatsoever, was wrong and unacceptable,” Don Peat said in an email Saturday night. The deadline for candidates to register in the municipal election is Sept. 14.
Jorge Barrera APTN National NewsOn the eve of Canada’s 150th birthday, at the spot with the biggest planned celebration, the Mountie wouldn’t say whether he was proud to be Canadian.“No comment,” said the officer after Ian Campeau, aka DJ NDN from A Tribe Called Red, asked him if he was proud of being Canadian.“Are you proud of being Canadian? It’s Canada Day,” said Campeau, microphone in hand and face to face with the Mountie, between the reoccupy teepee and Parliament Hill’s Peace Tower, while pop star Alessia Cara rehearsed on the main stage. “No comment? So you have no comment about being proud of being Canadian. Nobody wants to be proud of being Canadian anymore, see how powerful words are, they are making police scared of saying they are proud to be Canadian on fucking Canada Day, people.”Moments before, Campeau was holding court with the microphone. Gesturing toward the Peace Tower, he said the sandstone bricks of Parliament Hill were taken from a quarry containing the bones of Algonquin ancestors.“This is literally built from bones, this is a mausoleum,” said Campeau.Campeau said celebrating Canada was also celebrating oppression.“The idea of Canada can’t exist without the oppression of Indigenous people. You can’t have Canada without the oppression of Indigenous peoples….A lot of the people that think they are proud of Canada need to understand they are proud of …white supremacy.”Grandmother Jocelyn Iahtail smudges RCMP officer Friday at reoccupy camp on Parliament Hill.Campeau was on Parliament Hill in support of the Bawating water protectors from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and the “ceremonial reoccupation” of the grounds. The RCMP allowed for the raising of a teepee to the west of the main stage on Thursday following several hours of negotiations triggered by nine arrests and a confrontation at Parliament Hill’s eastern gate.Tensions resurfaced Friday after the reoccupy members attempted to erect a second structure made of a tarp and plastic poles to provide shelter from the rain which fell incessantly throughout much of the day.“We are trying to put up shelter, for our guests on stolen Algonquin land, that is all we are trying to do is shelter our guests,” said Fred Stoneypoint, one of the reoccupy organizers. “They are not afraid of structures, they are actually afraid of Indigenous structures, Indigenous community structures.”The RCMP officers, along with some members of the OPP and the Ottawa police, eventually confiscated the plastic tent poles, but in exchange provided a Budget rental truck to shelter the reoccupy camp’s supplies from the rain.(Police officers stand by confiscated plastic tent poles.)Jocelyn Iahtail, a grandmother and one of the lead spokespersons for the grassroots reoccupy group, said she agreed to the truck to support “several” fasters who were inside the teepee.“That is so all their things are protected. We show them love and kindness that way,” said Iahtail.Earlier in the day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife visited the teepee site and stayed for about 30 minutes. His visit followed a remarkable turnaround by the RCMP which allowed the raising of the teepee on Thursday evening after a tense standoff which began on Wednesday when the reoccupy group tried to enter the Parliament Hill grounds with wooden teepee poles. The RCMP and Parliament Hill security guards initially blocked passage by pushing back against the poles carried by the reoccupy supporters. The Mounties eventually set up barricades and allowed the teepee to be set up inside the eastern gate of Parliament Hill. Then, in a move that surprised reoccupy organizers, the Mounties agreed to let the teepee onto the main grounds of Parliament Hill to the west of the main stage.Stoneypoint said the teepee was a good first step, but he wanted the Mounties to allow the lighting of a sacred fire. When the RCMP initially allowed the teepee onto the main grounds, they said a fire would not be permitted.“We would like to see firewood so we could carry out our sacred ceremony,” said Stoneypoint. It was unclear Friday evening whether there would be an attempt to light the [email protected]@JorgeBarrera
