News RSF_en HondurasAmericas Organisation Follow the news on Honduras News April 27, 2021 Find out more Two journalists have reported receiving credible threats in early November although the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) had asked the Honduran authorities to provide them with protection. They are Arnulfo Aguilar, the head of Radio Uno, a radio station located in the northwestern city of San Pedro Sula, and Luis Galdamez, programme director at Tegucigalpa-based Radio Globo. Both are critics of the June 2009 coup and both have provided critical coverage of the activities of the armed forces and police.“The protective measures requested by the IACHR for persecuted journalists have long been a dead letter in the absence of real implementation by the authorities, who must end the ordeals of Aguilar and Galdamez by providing them and their news media with proper security.” Reporters Without Borders said. “Compliance with this requirement was one of the undertakings that the Honduran government gave in return for its readmission to the Organization of American States. It must be respected.”Aguilar, who narrowly escaped an armed ambush outside his home on 27 April, has notified the Committee of Families of Detainees and Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH) that he received threats against himself and his daughter on his mobile phone. Aguilar has repeatedly been targeted by the security forces since the coup and one of his journalists, Medardo Flores, was murdered on 8 September.According to the Committee for Free Expression (C-Libre), a Reporters Without Borders partner organization, Galdamez was on the air, hosting his programme “Tras la Verdad” (Behind the Truth), when he received a threatening call from an individual who identified himself as a member of the armed forces. The caller said: “Come over here, we are waiting for you, as you spend your time ranting on about the police and army.”Galdamez has also been the victim of military violence since the coup. He was one of the journalists who were with deposed President Manuel Zelaya after his clandestine return to Honduras, when he sought refuge in the Brazilian embassy. In a separate development, Gabriel Álvarez Padget, the son of Televicentro journalist Renato Álvarez, was threatened by individuals who put a gun to his head as he left their Tegucigalpa home on 9 November. Renato Álvarez recently called for a purge of the police force after at least eight of its members were accused of involvement in the murder of two students. The murder investigation has ground to a halt because the police are not cooperating.“The government’s anti-crime drive, Operation Lightning is not going to solve the problems of violence and impunity,” Reporters Without Borders added. “There will be no progress on that front until the former and current commanders of the police and armed forces publicly account for the human rights violations since the coup and hand over all the documents needed to solve the 16 murders of journalists since 2010.”Operation Lightning has aroused a great deal of concern among community and grass roots movements, especially in the militarized Lower Aguán region where many human rights violations and extra-judicial executions have been reported. A survey of community radio broadcasting is urgently needed to satisfy the right to media diversity and the right of Honduran communities to their own radio stations, which are the target of attacks by landowners, often with the complicity of the armed forces. With this, the strike of the Association that has been continuing since 24th February, has now officially come to an end. The Association has been voicing its 4-point demands, and which are: – Extension of jurisdiction of High Court (Lucknow Bench)To Establish GST Tribunal’s State Bench in Lucknow To protest against Education Tribunal To Establish Company Law Appellate Tribunal in Lucknow While calling off the strike, the Association has also informed that it would be forming a ‘Jurisdictional Struggle Committee’ (Kshetradhikar Sangharsh Samiti) consisting of members from Advocates’, Teachers’ and Traders’ Unions so that their movement gets stronger. In today’s meeting, the Committee also supported the call for the establishment of HC’s Bench for the Western district of Uttar Pradesh and till the time such a bench is provided with basic amenities/proper infrastructure, the western districts of UP must be included/brought under Lucknow Bench’s Jurisdiction. Further, its has been decided that the Committee so formed shall hold a candle March on 12th March in Lucknow. It may be noted that the Awadh Bar Association had moved the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, seeking the establishment of the GST Appellate Tribunal at Lucknow, and not Allahabad. Further, on 04th March, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court restrained the Central Government from establishing the GST Appellate Tribunal in the State of UP without Court’s permission. In view of the ongoing conflict with respect to the location of the Tribunal, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi said, “Having considered the arguments advanced and also the instructions communicated to us on behalf of respondent nos. 1 (Union of India) and 2 (GST Council), we deem it appropriate to direct respondent nos. 1 and 2 for not establishing Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal for the State of Uttar Pradesh without leave of this Court.” Significantly, a tussle is presently going on between the Allahabad High Court Bar Association and the Awadh Bar Association over the passing of the Uttar Pradesh Educational Services Tribunal Bill, 2021 which proposes to constitute two benches of the Tribunal in Lucknow and Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj). Notably, both the associations have cited different reasons for opposing the Bill. While HCBA, Allahabad is opposing the Bill as the Bill proposes to establish Tribunal’s Principal Bench in Lucknow, on the other hand, the Awadh Bar Association is miffed over the bifurcation of the Tribunal at two places.Next Story
Manchester: Former Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshed has been handed a 17-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to conspiring to bribe fellow cricketers in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).Jamshed, who pleaded guilty to the charges last December, has been sentenced to 17 months in prison at Manchester Crown Court, reports ESPNcricinfo. The 33-year-old was standing trial following his arrest in February 2017 alongside two UK nationals, Yousef Anwar, 36, and Mohammed Ijaz, 34. Anwar has been sentenced to 40 months in prison and Ijaz 30 months. Both Anwar and Ijaz had also admitted to offering financial advantages to the PSL players with the intention of inducing them to perform improperly by failing to play competitively in good faith.Jamshed had originally denied being involved in a plan focused on the PSL, but changed his plea during a court hearing then. Prosecutors had, in December 2019, told the court that as part of the British’s National Crime Agency investigation, an undercover police officer infiltrated the spot-fixing network, and secured an initial meeting with Anwar, by posing as a member of a corrupt betting syndicate. “That surgery was conducted on Wednesday evening and everyone at Manchester City wishes Benjamin a speedy recovery.”Mendy missed the majority of last season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Crystal Palace in September 2017.He returned from injury in April this year and has started nine of City’s 12 Premier League games this season.Share on: WhatsApp FILE PHOTO: Mendy undergoes knee surgeryLondon, United Kingdom | AFP | Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy underwent knee surgery on Wednesday, the Premier League champions announced. The 24-year-old was operated on after pulling out of the France squad for Friday’s Nations League game with the Netherlands.A statement from City read: “Manchester City can confirm that Benjamin Mendy has undergone surgery on his left knee tonight.“The Frenchman, who played the full 90 minutes in the weekend’s 3-1 win over rivals Manchester United, travelled to join up with his national team before withdrawing from the squad.“The 24-year-old defender attended Dr. Cugat’s clinic in Barcelona where scans revealed that surgery was required.
By Bruce FuhrThe Nelson Daily SportsThe Castlegar Rebels are quietly resting waiting for its next playoff opponent after disposing the Spokane Braves in five games. The odds-on favourite to play the Rebels in the Murdoch Final is the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. But the Nelson Leafs have a thing or two to say about who will be making the trip to the Sunflower City later this week.Cameron Dobransky slammed in a centering pass from Colton Malmsten with less than three minutes remaining in the third period to snap a 4-4 tie and power the Leafs to a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind victory in game six of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Murdoch semi final Tuesday at the NDCC Arena. The win evens the best-of-seven series at 3-3 with game seven Wednesday in Fruitvale.“I was amazed that it went in at first,” said a beaming Dobransky from outside the jubilant Leaf dressing room.“(Colton) Malmsten was right behind the net. We made eye contact and he made a great feed out to me . . ..” added the 17-year-old Pentictonite. “I’m pretty sure I had my eyes closed when I took the shot but it went in that’s the main thing.“That’s the biggest high of my life right now.”Beaver Valley coach Terry Jones was beside himself trying to explain what just happened. After controlling his emotions, the veteran Junior B skipper had this to say about the collapse of his team.“We were just (awful) in the third period,” Jones exclaimed. “We had two defencemen that could play. The rest of them were terrible.”“And I couldn’t believe the effort,” he added. “Like (our guys) come out and play that soft in the third period of a game that could end it. We have a two-goal lead and we come back and we give them a goal. . . ..We give it to them. It’s just unbelievable.”The Hawks looked to have this game in the bag and a trip to the next round of the playoffs.Riding the leadership and goal scoring of Ryon Sookro, who bagged a goal and an assist to lift Beaver Valley to a 4-2 lead 49 seconds into the third period, all the visitors had to do was play out the period and the series was over in six.But quicker than game announcer Gord Davis could announce the Beaver Valley power play goal by Arie Postmus, Colton Schell got the Leafs back to within a goal by sweeping a loose puck past Michael Vlanich. The Beaver Valley netminder had lost his balance after making the save giving Schell a wide-open net.Despite the quick score by Nelson, Beaver Valley still looked to have just enough as the teams plodded though the third period. That was until Dallon Stoddart streaked into the Beaver Valley end on a partial breakaway. Vlanich was equal to the test, making a remarkable save. But Stoddart’s effort seem to inspire the Leafs, who scored the tying marker seconds later when Evan J. Moir beat Vlanich from close range. Two minutes later Dobransky completed the comeback with his third goal of the series.“Motivation . . . positive attitude in the room. Nobody wanted to go home early,” Dobransky explained. “We want to be here until the middle of March. We want to go all the way and that’s what picked us up, made us continue on and comeback for another game.”Connor Enright and Patrick Martens gave Nelson a 2-1 first period lead. Postmus scored for Beaver Valley. In the second, Sookro on the power play and Derek Lashuk gave the Hawks a 3-2 advantage.Nelson out shot the Hawks 29-25 with Marcus Beesley registering his third home-ice victory of the playoffs.“So it’s come back down to again of who wants it the most,” Jones said.Stay tuned Rebel faithful.OVERTIME: Gavin Currie led the Leafs with two points in the game. . . .Nelson snipers Dustin Johnson and Joel Stewart did not play in game six. Johnson was suspended after receiving a game misconduct with 34 seconds remaining in game five. Stewart has left the team for person reasons said Leaf coach Chris Shaw. . . .Raymond Reimer also missed the game due to injury. . . .The Nelson Bantam Reps, off to Smithers in March for the Tier III Bantam Provincials, raised more than $900 during a fundraiser at Tuesday’s game. The team held a bake sale along with a paper-airplane toss into a passing new 2011 Ford Ranger truck. . . . The game attendance was 591. . . . At the end of the game while the Leafs were heading to celebrate the win with goalie Marcus Beesley, Colton Malmsten clipped Tyler Collins of the Hawks on the helmet with his stick. Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… It was bound to happen at some point: Search.xxx, a new search engine from ICM Registry, the operator for .xxx domains, has made its debut. So why does it look so much like other search engines?Search.xxx is a surprisingly demure site that lets users search for their preferred brand of “content” based on sexual preference, even allowing them to switch up languages, for a more global-friendly porn search. Results are scanned by McAfee for malware and labeled by MetaCert as adult content to keep younger eyes away.Unlike other porn searching sites, there’s no gyrating GIFs of people engaging with one another, no gimmicky ads, popups or distractions like that. Even the search results are just a simple list, no video previews. Only sites registered with a .xxx domain name will show up in the search results. Since ICM hosts these domains, and therefore makes money from them, the site didn’t need to put ads on Search.xxx itelf. You see just a white screen and a search bar. If someone was to peer over your shoulder real quick, they’d have no idea what you were searching for. It’s about as clean as a porn search engine can get. The creators of Search.xxx have been working on the search engine for more than a year. According to ICM, the goal was to create a different kind of Internet, one where people who search for explicit content can do so discreetly without malware or spamming worries. As The Verge pointed out, ICM is also seeking rights to top-level domain names like .sex, .adult and .porn, which if approved would presumably also show up in Search.xxx’s results. Tags:#search#Trends#web Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting A Short History Of .xxx DomainsThe idea to label sites that display explicit content with the domain name “.xxx” was proposed as a way to differentiate sites that want to provide that kind of content from ones that don’t. It was also presented as a way to ease blocking those kinds of sites for parents, workplaces and search engines. Proposed as top-level domain (TLD) by ICM Registry in 2000, .xxx endured more than a decade of back and forth discussion between ICM and ICANN, as well as objections from organizations ranging from the adult entertainment industry to parent advocacy groups. Today, 21 million pages are being hosted by ICM. The company says it follows the same strict guidelines as other search engines: No paid partnerships or preferential treatment. Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry told The Verge “We want genuine results,” adding, “Just like Google will penalize people for trying to outsmart the ranking system, we will do the same.”The search engine follows the same International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) guidelines that all .xxx domain sites do. These guidelines protect freedom of expression, while also preventing the distribution of underage or illegal images and using sites to phish, spam or inflict any kind of malicious behavior. From an industry standpoint, Search.xx seems like a smart approach. Offering a clean, simply designed site that avoids malware to access adult content plays against type and may help deflect criticism and boost traffic to ICM’s hosted sites. christina ortiz Related Posts A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market

SALMON ARM , B.C. — A former foster child of a Salmon Arm, British Columbia shooting victim is remembering Gordon Parmenter as the man who helped him discover his potential. The foster child, who can’t be named, has identified Parmenter as the man shot to death Sunday at a church in Salmon Arm, about 100 kilometres north of Kelowna.Salmon Arm RCMP confirm the shooting, which also seriously injured a second man in the church before other parishioners wrestled a 25-year-old man to the ground and held him until police arrived. In a statement to The Canadian Press, the former foster child says he lived with Parmenter and his wife Peggy from 2012 or 2013 until he aged out of the system in 2017.The statement says without Parmenter’s help, he would never have completed high school, discovered his love of music or continued to college, adding that he wept for an hour upon learning of the death.Charges are pending and police say the suspect knew at least one of the victims, but they note that the attack was not religiously motivated, nor has it created any ongoing risk to public safety. The Canadian Press
