Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… It was bound to happen at some point: Search.xxx, a new search engine from ICM Registry, the operator for .xxx domains, has made its debut. So why does it look so much like other search engines?Search.xxx is a surprisingly demure site that lets users search for their preferred brand of “content” based on sexual preference, even allowing them to switch up languages, for a more global-friendly porn search. Results are scanned by McAfee for malware and labeled by MetaCert as adult content to keep younger eyes away.Unlike other porn searching sites, there’s no gyrating GIFs of people engaging with one another, no gimmicky ads, popups or distractions like that. Even the search results are just a simple list, no video previews. Only sites registered with a .xxx domain name will show up in the search results. Since ICM hosts these domains, and therefore makes money from them, the site didn’t need to put ads on Search.xxx itelf. You see just a white screen and a search bar. If someone was to peer over your shoulder real quick, they’d have no idea what you were searching for. It’s about as clean as a porn search engine can get. The creators of Search.xxx have been working on the search engine for more than a year. According to ICM, the goal was to create a different kind of Internet, one where people who search for explicit content can do so discreetly without malware or spamming worries. As The Verge pointed out, ICM is also seeking rights to top-level domain names like .sex, .adult and .porn, which if approved would presumably also show up in Search.xxx’s results. Tags:#search#Trends#web Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting A Short History Of .xxx DomainsThe idea to label sites that display explicit content with the domain name “.xxx” was proposed as a way to differentiate sites that want to provide that kind of content from ones that don’t. It was also presented as a way to ease blocking those kinds of sites for parents, workplaces and search engines. Proposed as top-level domain (TLD) by ICM Registry in 2000, .xxx endured more than a decade of back and forth discussion between ICM and ICANN, as well as objections from organizations ranging from the adult entertainment industry to parent advocacy groups. Today, 21 million pages are being hosted by ICM. The company says it follows the same strict guidelines as other search engines: No paid partnerships or preferential treatment. Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry told The Verge “We want genuine results,” adding, “Just like Google will penalize people for trying to outsmart the ranking system, we will do the same.”The search engine follows the same International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) guidelines that all .xxx domain sites do. These guidelines protect freedom of expression, while also preventing the distribution of underage or illegal images and using sites to phish, spam or inflict any kind of malicious behavior. From an industry standpoint, Search.xx seems like a smart approach. Offering a clean, simply designed site that avoids malware to access adult content plays against type and may help deflect criticism and boost traffic to ICM’s hosted sites. christina ortiz Related Posts A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market

SALMON ARM , B.C. — A former foster child of a Salmon Arm, British Columbia shooting victim is remembering Gordon Parmenter as the man who helped him discover his potential. The foster child, who can’t be named, has identified Parmenter as the man shot to death Sunday at a church in Salmon Arm, about 100 kilometres north of Kelowna.Salmon Arm RCMP confirm the shooting, which also seriously injured a second man in the church before other parishioners wrestled a 25-year-old man to the ground and held him until police arrived. In a statement to The Canadian Press, the former foster child says he lived with Parmenter and his wife Peggy from 2012 or 2013 until he aged out of the system in 2017.The statement says without Parmenter’s help, he would never have completed high school, discovered his love of music or continued to college, adding that he wept for an hour upon learning of the death.Charges are pending and police say the suspect knew at least one of the victims, but they note that the attack was not religiously motivated, nor has it created any ongoing risk to public safety. The Canadian Press

WASHINGTON — U.S. businesses hired new workers at a solid pace in November, adding 179,000 jobs, according to a private survey.Payroll processor ADP says last month’s job gains slowed from October’s strong showing of 225,000. Still, November’s hiring is enough to lower the unemployment rate over time.ADP said that job gains were strong in health care, which added 37,000 jobs, and in hotels and restaurants, which gained 26,000. Construction gained 10,000 positions while manufacturing added just 4,000.The report Thursday arrives a day before the government releases its official jobs numbers. Economists forecast that they will show employers added 195,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate will remain at a five-decade low of 3.7 per cent.Christopher Rugaber, The Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Below is the statement the Fed released Wednesday after its policy meeting ended:Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in November indicates that the labour market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been rising at a strong rate. Job gains have been strong, on average, in recent months, and the unemployment rate has remained low. Household spending has continued to grow strongly, while growth of business fixed investment has moderated from its rapid pace earlier in the year. On a 12-month basis, both overall inflation and inflation for items other than food and energy remain near 2 per cent. Indicators of longer-term inflation expectations are little changed, on balance.Consistent with its statutory mandate, the Committee seeks to foster maximum employment and price stability. The Committee judges that some further gradual increases in the target range for the federal funds rate will be consistent with sustained expansion of economic activity, strong labour market conditions, and inflation near the Committee’s symmetric 2 per cent objective over the medium term. The Committee judges that risks to the economic outlook are roughly balanced, but will continue to monitor global economic and financial developments and assess their implications for the economic outlook. In view of realized and expected labour market conditions and inflation, the Committee decided to raise the target range for the federal funds rate to 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 per cent.In determining the timing and size of future adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will assess realized and expected economic conditions relative to its maximum employment objective and its symmetric 2 per cent inflation objective. This assessment will take into account a wide range of information, including measures of labour market conditions, indicators of inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and readings on financial and international developments.Voting for the FOMC monetary policy action were: Jerome H. Powell, Chairman; John C. Williams, Vice Chairman; Thomas I. Barkin; Raphael W. Bostic; Michelle W. Bowman; Lael Brainard; Richard H. Clarida; Mary C. Daly; Loretta J. Mester; and Randal K. Nablus: A Palestinian attempted to stab an Israeli in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday before being shot dead, Israeli and Palestinian officials said. The Israeli army said a Palestinian tried to carry out a stabbing attack near a military checkpoint close to Nablus in the northern West Bank, after which “a civilian fired and neutralised the assailant”. The Palestinian health ministry later confirmed he had died, though his identity was not released. Palestinian official news agency Wafa said the man who fired the shot was a settler, though the army declined to confirm or deny this. Wafa quoted eyewitnesses as saying the Palestinian man was a truck driver. A series of Palestinian lone wolf attacks broke out in the West Bank in late 2015. The situation has since calmed, but sporadic attacks continue.
New Delhi: Even a drop of pollution in Ganga is a matter of concern and the attitude of all authorities should be stringent to protect the river, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has said while seeking concrete action plan on the issue.A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel pulled up the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) over its action plan for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal and said it does not show concrete plans with prompt timelines and effort in prohibiting pollution. Also Read – Personal life needs to be respected: Cong on reports of Rahul’s visit abroad”The NMCG has not filed the precise information about the status of projects planned and executed between Kanpur to Ganga Sagar. Thus, the affidavit of the NMCG is of no assistance. The counsel appearing for the NMCG is not ready and is merely dependent on Praveen Kumar, Director (Technical), NMCG who is also not competent to assist this tribunal. “During the interaction, we find his approach to be to help the polluters instead of remedying the pollution which is the mandate of law and the orders of this tribunal,” the bench, also comprising Justices S P Wangdi and K Ramakrishnan, said. Also Read – Firms staying closed 10 days a month due to recession, govt doing nothing: Priyanka GandhiIt asked the NMCG to take remedial action so that assistance of a suitable person is provided to this tribunal with precise information failing which the tribunal may consider coercive measures against it. The tribunal also asked the concerned states to take the matter seriously and assist the bench with precise information either through senior officers or through counsel. “No counsel is present on behalf of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It is the responsibility of all the five states to ensure that water quality at every point meets the standards and if there is a violation, the violators are proceeded against in accordance with the law by way of prosecution, closure of polluting activities and payment of compensation for damage to the environment. “We direct Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal to place the status of water quality in the respective states on their websites and update the same on a monthly basis indicating fitness of water at various places for drinking or bathing purposes. The CPCB may indicate water quality of the Ganga river at boundaries of the said states on its website,” the tribunal said. It said as already directed, flood plains may be duly demarcated; encroachments prohibited and removed, biodiversity parks set up and afforestation undertaken. No amount of wealth generation or commercial or industrial activities can get priority over cleanliness of the Ganga river, it said. “Any individual or establishment violating the environmental norms with respect to the Ganga river must be strictly dealt with under the law and special cells must be created in the concerned states to monitor such action on a daily basis. “Such action can be a model to deal with pollution of all other rivers in the country. It is a matter of regret that as per report of the CPCB, 351 river stretches are polluted in the country,” it said. The tribunal noted that it had directed chief secretaries of all the states and Union Territories to monitor this aspect along with other important issues. “Till date, chief secretaries or administrators of 32 states and UTs out of 36 states and UTs have appeared in person. This tribunal has directed highest level monitoring to deal with the situation at the state-level as well as national-level. The Ganga river needs attention at the highest level. “We hope that this seriousness will be realised by the concerned states, NMCG and the Ministry of Water Resources and steps will be taken in the right earnestness in compliance of order of this tribunal,” it said. The bench said every time the progress has been found to be unsatisfactory, it will now have no option but to take more stringent measures unless satisfactory remedial action is taken. The matter is listed for next hearing on May 29. The tribunal had earlier said the water of the Ganga river, between Haridwar and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, was unfit for drinking and bathing, and expressed anguish over the situation. The green panel had said people drank and bathed in the river with reverence, without knowing that it may adversely affect their health.
