Prior to that meeting, a separate meeting was held at Western Province Chief Minister Prassana Ranatunga’s residence with the participation of the UPFA General Secretary, where concerns were raised over moves by President Sirisena to reverse his earlier decision to give former President Mahinda Rajapaksa nominations to contest the Parliament election.Premajayantha however told reporters that a change is not expected on the decision to give Rajapaksa nominations to contest the election on the UPFA ticket. The UPFA had last week announced that the President had agreed to give nominations to Rajapaksa. However several Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members had opposed the move.Sources close to Rajapaksa said that he is prepared to contest from another party if the UPFA does not give him nominations. Earlier this afternoon a meeting took place between UPFA party leaders and Premajayantha where the UPFA nominations list for the August 17 election was discussed. A meeting was held a short while ago between President Maithripala Sirisena and members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) nominations board, to decide on the UPFA candidates for the Parliament election.President Maithripala Sirisena was to decide on the final list of UPFA nominees at the meeting held at the President’s house.
